Field Application Engineer (EE Focus) (Syracuse, NY)

· Syracuse, New York
Employment Type 100%
Minimum Experience Entry-level

Fotokite develops autonomous, high-endurance tethered unmanned aerial systems for firefighters and public safety teams. Fotokite systems allow first responders to quickly and easily gain situational awareness after arriving at emergency scenes: our autonomous one-touch launch/land system makes operation simple, safe, and scalable; the dual color and thermal camera payload gives an immediate aerial perspective; and actively tethered flight means the system can fly without an active pilot and can be left flying for as long as the situation requires.

Fotokite is seeking a Field Application Engineer with a background in debugging and servicing electronics and robotics systems. You would join our rapidly growing FAE team and provide critical support in the deployment of new systems and training of customers. Your role will give you the opportunity to meet face to face with customers such as firefighters and first responders and help them develop the confidence to seamlessly integrate this unique tool into their daily routine.

As a member of the FAE team, you will have a chance to develop hands-on experience and gain an in depth understanding of the Fotokite platform. Working closely with the engineering and sales team, your interactions and direct customer feedback will directly impact the product development cycle. In this key position, your role will range from testing systems, product support, product demonstrations at trade shows, on site installations and training of active users and external servicing facilities.

  • Supports all aspects of Fotokite testing and demonstrations (from planning to execution, including bringing follow-up action items to closure, and providing debriefing reports)
  • Supports Fotokite system inspection, maintenance, and installation
  • Provides on-site and remote assistance in integration, training, and technical support to Fotokite customers, dealers and partners
  • Aids in the design and implementation of Fotokite training processes and operator manual documents
  • Supports & supervises system manufacturing, including QC inspections, debugging of PCBA test adapters, and hands-on assembly if necessary

Technical Qualifications

  • Degree/Certification or proven experience in Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field with two or more years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience with service/maintenance/bring-up of electronic devices, including assembly- and PCB-level electronics troubleshooting/rework
  • Bonus: Experience with computer networking, Linux, small-scale manufacturing or product assembly
  • Additional bonus: Hands on experience with robotics, drones, UAS or UAV systems. Experience with firefighting / public safety

Non-Technical Qualifications

  • Applicants should be self-motivated with strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
  • Diligent, methodical problem solving skills are a must
  • Excellent analytical, time-management and verbal / written communications skills
  • This job may require extensive travel
